The Global Transparency Senior Director will coordinate Oceana’s current work on expanding transparency in fisheries management, at-sea accountability, and market state powers and import controls. The Director will develop a global agenda for Oceana that guides our fundraising and communications efforts, and supports in-country campaigns to advance our shared agenda. The Senior Director’s role will operate across three different areas: Oceana’s global transparency work, US transparency campaigns, and the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency. Global Transparency The Senior Director will work closely with country teams who are campaigning for expanded transparency. The Senior Director will facilitate joint sharing and strategy meetings of the global Oceana network and will work with Oceana’s policy, communications, legal, science, and development teams to plan, track, and report on Oceana’s global impact on transparency. The Senior Director will represent Oceana in international coalitions and with decision makers, the media, and the funding community, as appropriate. The Senior Director will be an experienced communicator who can translate complicated policy and technical information into compelling talking points and campaign story telling. US Transparency The Senior Director will oversee the US Illegal Fishing and Transparency Campaign Director, providing strategic guidance to the team and integrating it into the larger global transparency work. Oceana campaigns are comprised of multidisciplinary teams that include science, policy, outreach, communications and legal professionals. Strong campaign skills, including campaign development, leadership and strategic thinking are essential to the success of the campaign. Coalition for Fisheries Transparency Oceana is a co-chair of the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency, (CFT), along with the Environmental Justice Foundation and Global Fishing Watch. The CFT is an international group of NGOs advancing fisheries transparency worldwide. The Senior Director will supervise the Coalition’s Director and serve as the Oceana liaison for the broader team including the senior policy manager, senior comms manager, and the senior outreach manager. The Senior Director will work with country teams to track Oceana campaigns and policy wins that align with the CFT Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency. The Senior Director will report to the Vice President of Oceana in the United States. The position requires flexibility to work in varied time zones and is based out of one of the Oceana offices, preferably in Washington, DC. Some travel is required. This is a full-time, exempt position. This is a two-year position with the possibility of extension based on additional funding.
