This Global Trade Specialist role involves managing the day-to-day import and export operations for seed and non-seed items entering and exiting the U.S. The position ensures compliance with customs regulations, maintains accuracy and efficiency to meet customer and production demands, and performs essential documentation and related functions with minimal supervision. The role requires coordination with various internal teams and external partners, including freight forwarders and brokers, to ensure timely and compliant logistics for shipments via ocean, air, land, and rail. Key responsibilities include meeting efficiency standards, reporting compliance gaps, maintaining Phytosanitary Certificates, preparing trade documents and financial invoices, and validating all necessary shipping documents. The specialist will ensure product flow meets international trade compliance, develop Standard Operating Procedures, provide analytical support, and ensure country-specific import/export requirements are met. This role also involves acting as a key contact for foreign partners, conducting training, handling complex trade accounts, and developing a deep understanding of applicable laws and regulations (APHIS, CBP, USDA), Bayer's product portfolio, and production processes. Collaboration with regional supply chain functions, finance, customer service, ITCC teams, Seed Regulatory, and Global Trade Operations teams is crucial. The role may also involve other duties and project participation as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in import/export operations and documentation
  • Ability to read and write English with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in SAP or a Global Trade system
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years' relevant experience in Logistics, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, International Commerce, Import, or Export

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day interaction and coordination of the import/export of seed and non-seed (chemical, specialized, research) items entering and exiting the U.S.
  • Ensure Import and Export Operations meet compliance and customs requirements, while maintaining accuracy and efficiency to support customer and production demands
  • With minimal supervision, perform import/export documentation and related functions in compliance with government rules and regulations, organizational policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Expedite the import/export process by liaising with regional Import/Export coordinators, Distribution Planning, and Plant and Production Planning teams
  • Coordinate logistics for import/export shipments by ocean, air, land, and rail, working closely with freight forwarders, brokers, Transportation Contract Managers, and internal stakeholders
  • Meet efficiency standards and ensure defined turnaround times are achieved
  • Report all compliance gaps in a timely manner
  • Ensure all export Phytosanitary Certificates are maintained and organized for retrieval
  • Prepare trade documents and coordinate legalizations for imports and exports based on received requests
  • Prepare financial invoices for international shipments
  • Validate all documents required for shipping internationally to assigned destinations
  • Ensure that all product flow meets international trade compliance requirements and that document controls are in place to support full trade compliance
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures associated with Trade Operations
  • Provide reporting and analytical support for other trade team initiatives
  • Ensure importing and exporting country requirements are met in a compliant and expedient manner
  • Act as a key contact for foreign partners
  • Conduct global import/export operations process training
  • Handle complex global trade accounts and trade lanes
  • Build and maintain working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to APHIS, Customs and Border Protection, USDA, and other government agency laws and regulations
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert for assigned business units
  • Develop a strong understanding of Bayer’s product portfolio and production processes
  • Collaborate with Regional Supply Chain functions including Planning, Finance, and Customer Service, as well as Regional Supply Chain Finance, ITCC teams across divisions, Seed Regulatory, Regional Global Trade Operations teams, and relevant logistics, customs, trade agencies, and regulatory groups
  • Perform other duties and participate in projects as needed
