Global Trade Monitoring & KYC

ConocoPhillipsHouston, TX

About The Position

This is a trade monitoring, market analysis, and counterparty due diligence role at the heart of ConocoPhillips' Commercial business. The role involves turning daily trading data into insight, spotting patterns in trading behavior across changing market conditions, supporting KYC and sanctions-aware reviews of counterparties, and helping the desk trade within global regulatory limits. The ideal candidate will have a genuine curiosity for commodities/energy markets and a risk mindset, seeking to understand market and counterparty behavior. The successful candidate should think strategically, adapt to environmental shifts, and demonstrate a drive for independent learning.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business, finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 1 or more years of experience in a commercial, trading, risk, banking, or proprietary trading environment, or relevant oil & gas experience (including internships)
  • 1 or more years of hands-on experience turning data into insight with Power BI, Tableau, or an equivalent data visualization and analytics tool
  • Working proficiency in SQL for querying and analyzing data
  • Strong communication and networking skills, including interacting with senior-level staff

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to KYC, counterparty due diligence, sanctions, or trade/regulatory compliance
  • Familiarity with commodities/energy markets and time-series trading data

  • Working knowledge of Python, R, VBA, or a similar language — or a demonstrated ability and drive to pick it up on the job

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze daily global trading activity using energy trading systems and analytics tools to identify patterns, outliers, and potential risk indicators.

  • Monitor global regulatory trading thresholds and help ensure activity stays within limits.
  • Build clear, decision-ready dashboards and analysis (Power BI / Tableau) that make trading and counterparty data understandable to front-office and compliance stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with front-office personnel across regions, building a practical understanding of ConocoPhillips' trading strategies.
  • Participate in business improvement projects, including supporting or leading cross-functional teams that enhance monitoring processes and systems.
