About The Position

This role is for a Global Tooling Engineer focused on Medical and non-Medical tooling programs. The engineer will be responsible for quoting and selecting vendors for tool builds, providing input on design, tracking mold construction, and documenting evidence. They will also perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/T0, tune molds to meet part specifications, and ensure a smooth transition to production.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in an Engineering field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in plastics industry with emphasis on mold/part design
  • Injection molding process knowledge
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Leadership skills
  • Project Management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Above average computer experience
  • Advanced skills in mold and part design/drawings desired
  • Strong statistical techniques for analyzing data
  • Familiar with medical manufacturing, part sterilization, post molding operations, and Design of Experiments
  • Hands on experience in medical manufacturing, part sterilization, post molding operations, and Design of Experiments
  • Deep knowledge of at least a dozen materials and can cite the advantages and dis-advantage of each material
  • Good PC skills
  • Above average with MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • At least average CAD skills
  • Comfortable leading a design review
  • Comfortable with the model manipulation portion of Mold design reviews
  • Understands how to match a tool with a machine, EOAT
  • Skilled in Design for Molding and manufacturing
  • Comfortable delivering hard hitting DFM feedback of design and drawing specifications without offending the customer
  • Understands SIM, the importance of cavity-to-cavity balance and the processing of Injection molds

Nice To Haves

  • Four-year Degree
  • Medical Molding experience (PFMEA, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ)
  • Class 101 molds

Responsibilities

  • Drive the build and tuning of Medical and non-medical Molds (through Design, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, Control plans)
  • Positively interact and communicate with customers, suppliers, and operational personnel to achieve business objectives
  • Assist with product/mold design solutions
  • Drive tool design, oversee tool build, and collaborate with customers, tool shops, and site personnel
  • Troubleshoot measurement and validation of dimensions, understanding plastic or steel tolerances, GD&T, CTQs, and other dimension categories
  • Support tooling and production engineering, problem identification, troubleshooting, resolution, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with large teams and hold self, project team, and vendors to a high standard
  • Quote and select Vendors for tool build
  • Provide knowledgeable input to the design
  • Track mold build
  • Provide objective evidence and document the evidence
  • Responsible for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/T0
  • Tune the mold to meet the specifications of the part print
  • Ensure smooth and thorough transitioning of the mold to production
  • Assist in the assembly, dis-assembly, maintenance, and improvement of tooling
