About The Position

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is seeking a Global Science AI and Conservation Intern to apply natural language processing techniques to contextualize, map, and analyze WWF's extensive collection of conservation project reports. This role will help the organization better understand its impact, learn from past work, and plan for the future of conservation. The intern will work with the Global Science Data and Technology Lead Scientist, the Global Science team, and other impact measurement experts at WWF. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a graduate program in computer science, data science, or environmental science with a documented strength in computational approaches.
  • Expertise in the Python programming language.
  • Experience leveraging large language model APIs (especially, but not restricted to, Gemini).
  • Experience with geospatial information systems.
  • Identifies and aligns with WWF’s core values: Courage, Respect, Integrity and Collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Extend the existing application by automating the process of uploading documents.
  • Extend the geospatial extraction efforts to create a database of locations from the documents.
  • Leverage foundation models to measure long-term impacts of earlier conservation efforts.
