About The Position

The Global Portfolio Analysis and Reporting (GPAR) team at MSIM is responsible for delivering performance, attribution, and portfolio analytics to internal and external stakeholders globally. Activities covered by the team include portfolio return attribution, ex-post risk analytics, portfolio characteristics, and competitive analysis. The team supports investment decision-making, client reporting, marketing, and senior management through robust analytics and insight across asset classes. As MSIM continues to grow in scale and complexity, GPAR plays a critical role in delivering deeper performance and attribution insight, enhancing the analytical tools and reporting that support investment decisions, driving automation and AI-enabled efficiencies, and acting as a trusted partner to investment teams and senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in asset management performance, risk analytics, or portfolio analysis.
  • Sound understanding of attribution theory, performance calculation standards, and ex-post risk analytics.
  • Ability to interpret the performance impact of various transactions and corporate actions, including knowledge of alternative return calculations.
  • Thorough knowledge of a wide range of financial instruments and investment strategies, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, multi-asset, and alternatives (mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, high attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.
  • Strong individual initiative, with a track record of driving process efficiencies and the ability to think strategically and build on system capabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • In-depth understanding of attribution theory and practice.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including designing and maintaining complex spreadsheets, power queries, reports, and charts.
  • Experience with performance and risk systems such as FactSet, BlackRock Aladdin, Bloomberg, or other leading systems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and their impact on performance and risk reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress towards an advanced professional certification (e.g., CFA or CIPM) preferred.
  • SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Generate standard and bespoke performance attribution and contribution analyses for Equity and Fixed Income strategies.
  • Monitor and highlight key performance drivers to senior management.
  • Produce ex-post risk analytics, portfolio characteristics, and competitive analyses across asset classes.
  • Write interpretive commentary on the reports produced, and design new reports that inform decision-making at MSIM.
  • Play an active role in ensuring and improving data integrity and quality.
  • Design and enhance analytical tools to enable efficient reporting and access to data.
  • Contribute to integration efforts to consolidate and harmonize attribution reporting across MSIM businesses.
  • Collaborate with the Technology team to re-engineer processes and improve the effectiveness of existing reporting.
  • Partner with investment team members, product specialists, client service administrators, and other investment professionals on analyses relating to investment performance and the decomposition of returns.
  • Present reports and interpretations to senior management in a clear and impactful manner.
  • Support relationships with external vendors, helping to ensure service quality and alignment with MSIM standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement across process design, data quality, and reporting.
