About The Position

The Global Policy Development & Research Team is a core part of the Public Policy & Communications Organization, leading economic and legislative analysis to drive policy strategy and communications globally. This team analyzes the impact of proposed legislative and regulatory changes, shapes global policy positions, and communicates DoorDash’s role in driving impact in local economies. DoorDash is seeking an experienced Global Head of Economics Research, serving as Head Economist, to lead its research function. This role will analyze DoorDash's role in local economies and the impact it drives for Dashers, merchants, and consumers, and shape how these insights are shared externally. The Head Economist will lead a team exploring how the DoorDash platform drives economic activity globally and shapes policy conversations about the future of work and local commerce.

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics or a similar domain.
  • 10+ years of experience in economic research, data analytics, economic or management consulting, or a related quantitative role.
  • Strong track record of influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Expertise in SQL and statistical analysis (e.g., hypothesis testing, experimentation, regressions).
  • Familiarity with one or more analytics & visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to scale and enhance research impact.
  • Experience managing direct reports, including technical and managerial tasks (e.g., 1+1's, technical mentorship, recruitment participation).
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and balancing rigor with speed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Global Economics Research function, setting its vision, defining research direction, and driving execution of a high-impact research agenda.
  • Analyze economic impact and how policy proposals affect the platform and its users (Dashers, merchants, consumers).
  • Produce public-facing analyses demonstrating impact to policymakers, media, and other audiences, telling stories about the company's role in local economies.
  • Collaborate with Public Policy and Communications teams to translate complex research into compelling narratives for external audiences, including media interviews and policymaker meetings.
  • Engage with academics, think tanks, and thought leaders to analyze and describe impact, and to create a foundation for proposed policies.
  • Coordinate closely with Public Policy & Communications, Analytics, Finance, Communications, and Strategy & Ops Teams.
  • Manage a team with a global remit.
