About The Position

Based in Dorval, the Global Ethics & Compliance Lead develops, implements, and continuously enhances SMARDT's global Ethics & Compliance Program. This role translates global standards into practical regional processes and controls; oversees compliance risk, policy, training, speak-up mechanisms, and internal investigations; and serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and business functions across the organization.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in ethics, compliance, legal, governance, audit, investigations, or risk management.
  • Experience developing and administering compliance programs and conducting investigations.
  • Experience in a multinational environment and with regulatory compliance programs spanning multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience with policy development and management, compliance training, and speak-up programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in law, business, public policy, risk management, finance, human resources, or a related discipline; an LLB or JD is an asset.
  • English proficiency is required to collaborate with international teams and manage policies, reports, investigations, and regulatory requirements from multiple regions.

  • A compliance and ethics, fraud examination, privacy, or governance certification is an asset.
  • Bilingual English/French is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance the global Ethics & Compliance Program, including frameworks, processes, procedures, and annual workplans.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of compliance risks with regional and functional stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain the Compliance Risk Register, coordinate risk assessments, track mitigation plans, and escalate significant risks to senior leadership.
  • Draft, implement, and maintain compliance policies, standards, and procedures, including ownership of policy lifecycle management and review schedules.
  • Develop and manage the global ethics and compliance training program, including annual plans, Code of Conduct certifications, targeted learning, and effectiveness measurement.
  • Design awareness initiatives that promote ethical decision-making, reinforce SMARDT's values, and strengthen a speak-up culture across all regions.
  • Administer SMARDT's reporting mechanisms and ensure concerns are triaged, tracked, and resolved in line with confidentiality, fairness, independence, and non-retaliation principles.
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations involving managerial-level and below employees, including investigation planning, interviews, evidence evaluation, and report preparation.
  • Monitor corrective actions and remediation activities arising from investigations and compliance reviews.
  • Support the third-party compliance program and coordinate risk-based due diligence, certifications, contractual compliance requirements, and monitoring activities.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative developments across SMARDT's operating regions and coordinate implementation of new obligations.
  • Establish metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to evaluate program effectiveness, monitor trends and corrective actions, and support leadership decisions.
  • Lead compliance monitoring, testing, and continuous improvement, including program reviews, control assessments, audit support, and benchmarking.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders across Legal, Human Resources, Risk Management, Finance, Internal Audit, Information Security, EHS, and business operations.
  • Serve as a trusted ethics and compliance advisor and support consistent implementation of requirements throughout the organization.
