About The Position

Nubank is seeking a Global People Data & Tech Director to lead the design and construction of a next-generation People & Culture infrastructure. This role is for an individual who sees HR technology as an industry ripe for disruption and aims to build a new system from the ground up, leveraging AI agents for operations. The focus is on creating an agent-native HR stack, a robust data foundation, and a scalable platform that can support global operations across 40+ markets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering and technology leadership, with a deep understanding of data architecture, agentic systems, and scaling impact without proportional headcount growth. This is an opportunity to redefine HR technology within a technically ambitious, high-growth company.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in software engineering and technology leadership, with demonstrated experience owning large-scale production systems from architecture through operation.
  • Deep fluency in data architecture and data modelling.
  • Hands-on experience building with or designing for agentic systems: familiarity with LLM-based reasoning, tool use, multi-agent orchestration, and the failure modes that come with autonomous execution.
  • Experience leading platform or infrastructure products.
  • Proven ability to scale impact without scaling headcount: through leverage, tooling, great architecture, and a culture that defaults to automation before process.
  • Strong engineering management skills, including the ability to hire, develop, and retain senior technical talent and engineering leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building products that operate across multiple legal jurisdictions, especially where regulatory variance is a first-class design constraint.
  • Background in developer platforms, internal tooling, or B2B SaaS.
  • Familiarity with the People & Culture domain as a product builder.
  • Experience operating within a high-growth technology company where ambiguity is the norm.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture for a People & Culture platform where agents are first-class citizens, capable of executing hiring, onboarding, payroll, compliance, and performance workflows with minimal human intervention.
  • Define the human-in-the-loop model, specifying which decisions require human review, through what interfaces, and with what level of latency.
  • Identify and eliminate workflows that are no longer necessary.
  • Architect the People data layer to serve as the substrate for agent reasoning, predictive analytics, and LLM-powered insight generation.
  • Ensure the data model is jurisdiction-aware from day one, accommodating legal, cultural, and operational variance across 40+ markets.
  • Drive the transition from fragmented HR data silos to a unified, real-time, auditable data layer.
  • Apply agentic development practices to the team's engineering process, using agents to write, test, review, and deploy code.
  • Lead the development of real-time AI-powered employee experiences, including intelligent copilots, proactive guidance systems, and autonomous support channels.
  • Advance Nubank's application of large language models to unstructured People data to generate organizational insights.
  • Define the comprehensive HR platform roadmap, including what to build, what to integrate, and what not to own, with a bias toward deep integration.
  • Ensure the platform is designed for global scale from the start, supporting multi-currency, multi-jurisdiction, multi-language, and operable across legal entities.
  • Bridge strategic vision with hands-on execution, staying close to the codebase and architecture.
  • Build and lead a high-performing, deliberately lean team that leverages agents for efficiency.
  • Develop senior technical leaders who can own domains end-to-end.
  • Foster a culture of intellectual honesty that questions inherited assumptions about HR technology.
