About The Position

Veeva Business Consulting is seeking a Global Data Science Lead for its Global Analytics Business Consulting Team. The team applies data science and AI to help life sciences customers turn commercial, medical, and regulatory data into action. This role supports execution of the team’s Data Science AI strategy and leads data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and analysts. The Lead partners with Global Analytics leadership to translate strategy into delivery using advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI/LLM techniques applied to life sciences data. The position owns global methodology for model management, observability, testing, and deployment; oversees the design and implementation of analytics and AI models; and supports robust, scalable data and AI infrastructure. The Lead also works across consulting, engineering, product, and business teams to identify opportunities and deliver AI-native, data-driven solutions, while enforcing data quality, security, governance, responsible AI, and rigorous model testing practices.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Economics, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; or equivalent M.S. with 8+ years of relevant demonstrable research experience.
  • Experience with the Life Sciences industry and applying analytics and AI/ML to related data sets.
  • Hands-on experience building or deploying LLM-based systems, including prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, or fine-tuning.
  • Advanced, in-depth specialization in data science and AI techniques, including classification, pattern recognition, clustering, feature analysis, NLP, fuzzy matching, sentiment analysis, A/B testing, and active/adaptive learning.
  • Proven leadership of teams of 10+ people.
  • Intellectual curiosity and excellent problem-solving and quantitative skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes, and recommend solutions to non-standard problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical and AI-driven solutions to team members and clients.
  • Comfort with changing requirements and priorities.
  • Results-oriented and able to move forward without complete information and with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced experience with AWS, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Data pipeline building skills.
  • Product development experience.
  • Experience with LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, or vector databases.
  • Experience designing AI-native products or workflows, rather than simply adding AI to existing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Data Science function within the Global Analytics Team in line with Veeva's Analytics Business Consulting goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and analysts.
  • Partner with Global Analytics leadership to translate the broader Data Science AI strategy into team priorities and delivery plans.
  • Own global methodology for model management, observability, testing, and deployment.
  • Foster collaboration between consulting, data science, and engineering teams to integrate AI-driven data solutions.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI/LLM models within the team's scope.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of robust, scalable, and efficient data and AI infrastructure supporting team deliverables.
  • Collaborate with consulting teams to understand customer business requirements and translate them into AI-native, data-driven solutions.
  • Work with product and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to apply AI within engagements.
  • Enforce best practices for data quality, security, governance, and responsible AI use.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous testing procedures to validate the accuracy and reliability of data, ML, and AI models.
