About The Position

The GL Accountant will be responsible for daily general ledger accounting, monthly close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting various accounting functions including fixed assets, lease accounting, and intercompany transactions. This role requires a strong understanding of US GAAP, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting software. The GL Accountant will collaborate with various teams, support audits, and contribute to process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, or finance, with experience in general ledger accounting, month-end close, or balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, accrual-basis accounting, Journal Entries, month-end close, and Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with fixed assets, lease accounting, payroll accounting, and intercompany accounting.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ownership, with excellent attention to detail and logical thinking.
  • Strong learning, problem-solving, and execution skills.
  • Ability to independently complete assigned responsibilities within deadlines, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-entity environments and/or the retail or consumer industry is preferred.
  • ERP / NetSuite experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily general ledger accounting for assigned entities and accounts, completing Journal Entries, accruals, provisions, amortization, reclassifications, and other standard month-end adjustments in accordance with the monthly close calendar.
  • Review transactions against supporting documents, including transaction details, account codes, entities, departments, periods, and amounts, to ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and compliant with accrual-basis accounting.
  • Follow up on outstanding items and unusual variances based on the monthly close checklist and promptly escalate significant or complex issues to Senior General Ledger Accountants / Finance Management.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, including bank, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, leases, payroll, intercompany, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain reconciliation supporting schedules and reconcile GL balances to detailed supporting records. Investigate and follow up on long-outstanding items, unusual balances, negative balances, and timing differences.
  • Perform accounting in accordance with the company’s Chart of Accounts, account usage guidelines, and standard JE templates; identify and correct misclassifications or inconsistent accounting treatments.
  • Responsible for or assist with fixed asset additions, capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and CIP detail maintenance, ensuring asset records and supporting documents are complete.
  • Responsible for or assist with monthly ASC 842 lease accounting, ROU Asset / Lease Liability reconciliations, and follow-up on rent-related variances.
  • Responsible for or assist with payroll / headcount cost accruals, allocations, and payroll-related liability reconciliations, ensuring labor costs are recognized in the correct period and entity.
  • Responsible for daily accounting of intercompany transactions, due to / due from balances, expense allocations, and other related-party transactions for assigned entities.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances with corresponding entities monthly, investigate differences, and prepare necessary adjustments in a timely manner.
  • Prepare supporting documentation required for consolidation and eliminations and assist Senior General Ledger Accountants with intercompany cleanup prior to month-end close.
  • Assist with monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and GL detail reviews and provide preliminary analysis of significant fluctuations, unusual balances, and unreasonable or unexpected items.
  • Identify missing accruals, duplicate / unusual entries, misclassifications, and other potential issues through review of GL details, reconciliations, and business supporting documentation.
  • Promptly gather supporting documentation, identify preliminary root causes, and follow up on corrective actions for issues identified; escalate complex or significant matters in a timely manner.
  • Use NetSuite / ERP and related financial systems as required to perform daily accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and record maintenance, and participate in system testing, data migration, and system implementation support.
  • Strictly follow internal control requirements related to Journal Entry approvals, reconciliations, period close, supporting documentation, system access, and other financial controls.
  • Identify repetitive manual processes, data issues, and process inefficiencies in daily work; provide improvement recommendations to Senior General Ledger Accountants / Finance Management and assist with implementation.
  • Support external audits, tax audits, and other special reviews by preparing GL, reconciliation, fixed asset, lease, payroll, and other requested documentation in accordance with PBC requirements and timelines.
  • Collaborate with AP, Revenue / Cost, Monki Accounting, FP&A, HR, IT, Operations, and other teams to collect month-end close information and resolve accounting issues within the assigned scope.
  • Maintain organized and complete workpapers, supporting documents, and financial records; promptly escalate significant variances, accounting judgments, or control issues and do not independently make decisions beyond authorized responsibilities.
