About The Position

This role focuses on maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger within an accounting and finance function, with an emphasis on real estate-related activities. You will manage day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end close, and ensure financial data is accurate, timely, and aligned with standardized procedures. This is a short-term assignment of approximately two months with potential for extension, offering the opportunity to contribute immediately to a busy finance team.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a real estate environment.
  • Strong general ledger accounting experience, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Ability to manage depreciation using the straight-line method.
  • Experience preparing financial statements such as income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets.
  • Proficiency in tracking and reconciling accounts receivable and ensuring accurate recording of payments.
  • Ability to review and analyze variances to budget and interpret financial data for forecasting purposes.
  • Competence in basic computer functions and use of standard office software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
  • Ability to work within standardized procedures and meet deadlines in a structured environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Experience in real estate accounting is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with MRI accounting systems is a plus.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing variance explanation reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a short-term assignment and contribute immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Handle day-to-day accounting tasks to support ongoing business operations.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure a complete and accurate record of financial transactions.
  • Manage depreciation using the straight-line method and ensure correct application across relevant assets.
  • Prepare key financial documents, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets.
  • Ensure taxes, general ledger entries, and other financial information are accurate, current, and properly documented.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Reconcile balance sheets and profit and loss statements to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Post to the general ledger and review variances to budget, using the data to forecast changes to the business.
  • Review variance explanation reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Track accounts receivable and confirm all payments are properly recorded in the system.
  • Review account balances regularly to ensure they are correct and aligned with supporting documentation.
  • Work primarily within standardized procedures and established practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and support decision-making.
