About The Position

Creates zoning, historic, annexation, and other maps using data and geographic information. Generates addressing plats and updates street name list and range maps. Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Generates addressing plats utilizing Geographic Information Systems and drawing tools. Updates street name list by comparing the new subdivision plats versus the GIS data and existing plats. Performs technical duties in the maintenance, development, and operation of the geographic information systems. Creates, maintains, and edits departmental shape files and layers. Prepares a variety of analysis of electronic information, including the preparation of multi-layered and linked maps and tabular data; prepares graphic materials and assists staff in interpreting the results. Ensures the quality and accuracy of a variety of geographic information system data, including researching and revising maps and data from other data sources. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of drawing programs and different tools to generate and edit address plats
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems
  • Knowledge of City boundaries
  • Knowledge of basic database management principles and techniques
  • Skill in organization and time management
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
  • Ability to read and understand plats
  • Ability to generate and digitalize geospatial data
  • Ability to read survey information
  • Ability to process and analyze complex data sets and information
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geography or Information Systems
  • At least one (1) year of experience in geographic information systems
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Must be able to function in a principle-based organization that has a culture built on character and core values.
