About The Position

The Orange County Tax Administration Department has an opening for a GIS Technician II. The work involves complex technical work using GIS software for the preparation and illustration of cadastral assessment maps used in the preparation of a county-wide tax roll as well as preparing, transferring and maintaining real estate tax records and files, checking data for accuracy, assisting the public and other departments and agencies. Work is performed under the general direction of the GIS and Land Records Manager with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required. A background check is required.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Geography or closely related field.
• Two (2) years of work experience in Geographical Information Systems, including working with datasets and GIS layers, map preparation and editing, and analyzing using ArcGIS software.
• Must be certified as a North Carolina State Property Mapper.
• Must be certified as a NCPMA Property Mapper.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Successful clearance of a background check.

Nice To Haves

• Certification as a paralegal or CMS (Cadastral Mapping Specialist).
• Ability to provide records showing candidate is actively working toward obtaining certification as a paralegal or CMS.
