About The Position
Enterprise Business & Technology Modernization is a cross-functional organization leading PG&E’s Propel and Elevate programs, a major business and technology modernization initiative designed to unlock customer value by simplifying collaborative work processes. Elevate will migrate PG&E to the new version of GIS and Utility Network, presenting a unique opportunity for PG&E to standardize business processes, move to out of the box technology, and enable innovation for breakthrough change across Engineering, Operations, and Information Technology. The team partners closely with IT and external partners to work collaboratively with many stakeholders to adopt standard processes and maximize the use of out-of-the-box proven technology solutions to meet business needs. The GIS Technical Specialist will be the technical steward for BASE GIS data ensuring standards, lineage, and quality are consistently applied so these datasets serve as a single source of truth across the business. The position will support contractor‑delivered data migrations end‑to‑end: authoring mapping and transformation rules, defining QA/QC and acceptance criteria, validating loads, and driving defect resolution for each migration wave. Partnering with product, IT, and functional stakeholders, the position will operationalize data governance, set data standards, and ensure migrated datasets are performant, compliant, and ready for enterprise use in analytics and reporting, planning and design, and operations. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA approximately 1 - 3 days per week, or more, based on business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with GIS-Geographic Information System, ArcGIS, 3 years
- Utility industry experience, 3 years
- Experience with GIS-Geographic Information Systems, 5 years

Responsibilities
- Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.
- Provide advanced user support and data integration
- Provide integrity assurance input to the Integrity Management Program group.
- Support advanced enterprise GIS data modeling and data capture initiatives, develop and review software functionality requirements.
- Work collaboratively with other work groups and vendors, troubleshoot issues, produce technical communication
- Lead special projects related to GIS.
- Create and update metadata and catalog GIS layers, including documenting work flow procedures for staff using GIS, both in the office and in the field.
- Demonstrate by personal action a 100% commitment to employee and public safety.
- Develop and perform advanced data gathering, data integration, and quality control procedures for geospatial data, interface with data source systems to resolve complex issues; estimate impact of data issues to compliance and business commitments
- Identify user quality control, support and data integration process improvement opportunities, gather input and agreement on new requirements and lead implementation, communication and training around process revisions/changes.
- Lead efforts related to the preparation of annual reports to FERC, (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), SEC (Security and Exchange Commission), OPS (Office of Pipeline Safety) and CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission).
- Lead GIS software, hardware and database projects and initiatives
- Lead projects and efforts related to opportunities for improvement in the way work is done, share expertise and lessons learned
- Accurately identify Safety Critical Elements.
