About The Position

Confluence is seeking a seasoned GIS Specialist to support our environmental consulting projects across the Rocky Mountain region. Unlike many GIS roles that only “produce maps,” this position is central to our enterprise GIS program and the success of our projects. You will enforce internal GIS standards, validate and manage incoming datasets, standardize workflows, and maintain our ArcGIS Online infrastructure and spatial data resources to maintain and improve on critical data analysis and reporting needs. Your work will directly support field operations, regulatory compliance, and client deliverables by producing high-quality analysis, figures, and interactive maps. The ideal candidate excels in Esri platforms, enforces data quality standards, and integrates drone-collected imagery with environmental data for client-ready results. This role combines data architecture and workflow automation with the production of professional maps and graphics that directly support environmental assessments, permitting, and project management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of professional GIS experience in environmental consulting, natural resources, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and associated tools/platforms (Survey123, Field Maps, Dashboards).
  • Strong technical skills in geodatabase design, feature services, and data integration.
  • Solid grasp of projections, coordinate systems, datum transforms, spatial resolution, data accuracy, and Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) principles.
  • Proficiency in data management and automation workflows (Python preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present spatial analysis to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Must pass a standard background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC), and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regulatory environments.
  • Experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and other applicable federal and state regulatory frameworks.
  • Professional GIS certification (GISP) or progress toward certification.
  • Experience with oil and gas projects, particularly upstream and midstream operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of spatial data standards and formats required by regulatory agencies.
  • Experience producing GIS deliverables for permitting, compliance reporting, or regulatory submittals.
  • Advanced Python scripting for automation and geoprocessing.
  • Experience with remote sensing and photogrammetry (drone/Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) data).
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Online administration and web mapping services.
  • Background in environmental fieldwork, GPS data collection, or survey support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and enforce standardized GIS templates, symbology, and workflows across company projects.
  • Develop quality assurance plans to validate and quality control incoming spatial datasets and outgoing deliverables to ensure compliance with regulatory, client, and company standards.
  • Maintain and enhance the company’s ArcGIS Online spatial database, including data organization, permissions, and quality control.
  • Produce high-quality maps, figures, dashboards, and spatial analyses to support environmental assessments, regulatory submittals, and client deliverables.
  • Design and deploy Survey123 forms, field maps, and mobile applications to support field data collection and monitoring activities.
  • Integrate drone-collected ortho-imagery with Global Positioning System (GPS)-referenced field data for sub-meter to sub-inch precision mapping.
  • Support data automation by developing workflows that link laboratory results with field sample locations and other project datasets.
  • Collaborate with scientists, project managers, and field crews to integrate spatial analysis into project planning, compliance documentation, and client presentations.
  • Provide training, support, and licensing management for staff using ArcGIS products.
