About The Position

This is a non-exempt, part-time position, not to exceed 1,039 work hours in a fiscal year, with the Public Works Department located in Carson City, Nevada. Under general supervision, receives training and completes a variety of technical office work in support of City Asset Management and GIS related activities. Employment is not to exceed 1,039 hours and will end on September 1st of each year. Employment in this class will not lead to permanent City employment. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED, and current enrollment as a student in an accredited college or university program with an emphasis on Geography (GIS), Information Technology, Computer Science or related fields.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Basic concepts and terminology relating to geographic information systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ArcGIS Desktop and/or Esri GIS products.
  • Basic familiarity with the principles and practices of application development.
  • Understanding basic concepts of SQL, SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Understanding basic concepts of Reporting: Power BI.
  • Basic awareness of Process Management, CMMS (Computerized maintenance management Systems), and/or EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) software.
  • Using desktop computers (Windows) and office computer applications; particularly Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Using mobile devices; specifically, Apple iOS and/or Android device platforms.
  • Use of specified computer applications involving word processing, office automation and/or standard report generation; the selection and installation of personal computer and network hardware and software.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Documentation and user instruction methods and techniques.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Working collaboratively and working independently with good organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Using office and technical field tools and equipment.
  • Understanding and following oral and written directions.

Responsibilities

  • Applies general knowledge using GIS software to produce maps, drawings, charts, graphs and related documents.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains low level reports leveraging business intelligence tools to provide historical, current and predictive views of business operations.
  • Basic Asset Management lifecycle support.
  • Maintains accurate records and files related to work performed.
  • Research computer databases and hard copy files for maps, as-built drawings, construction drawings, specifications, right-of-ways and easements, technical data, land descriptions, facility locations, ownership and similar information; summarizes such information for project use and support.
  • Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work; may drive a motor vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation to various City work sites to perform on-site trouble shooting and attend meetings.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public, users, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
