About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs IT Services Department currently has an opening for a GIS Intern. This position is under the specific supervision of the GIS Administrator. This up-to 30-hour-a-week position performs skilled work pertaining to GIS and GPS data collection as it relates to public infrastructure.

Requirements

Position is for applicant's over 18 years of age.
Graduation from high school, or GED preferred.
Previous experience in related fields and able to demonstrate aptitude or ability to be trained and perform above or related duties is preferred.
A valid Utah Driver's License
Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures
Knowledge of the principles and practices of GPS data collection principals and ESRI desktop software
Ability to maintain records and task lists
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (i.e. employees, volunteers, and the general public)
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
Pre-employment drug testing, proof of employment eligibility, and background check required.

Nice To Haves

Preference might be given to candidates with an associate's degree in pre-engineering, geography, surveying or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Collect GPS data of existing and new infrastructure, including attributes (e.g. diameter of pipe, type of pipe, type of valve, size of valve, and joint type, etc.) and photos where applicable; infrastructure types include culinary & secondary water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, parks, and street lighting
Edit and create GIS based data using ArcGIS Desktop.
Coordinate with City Departments and development contractors to ensure data collection is completed for each project.
Operates light vehicles such as pickups
Perform other duties as assigned
