About The Position

The GIS Coordinator will serve as the team leader and point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team within the Data Products program in the Office of Data & Analytics. This role involves managing GIS team project work, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met through strong project management skills. The coordinator will utilize data governance best practices, particularly those related to GIS products, and will be responsible for geostatistical analysis, creating and maintaining visualizations, and developing accurate geospatial datasets. The position also includes developing and maintaining workflows for data integration and automation, creating web-based applications, and utilizing GIS software and statistical packages. The role requires regular engagement with stakeholders and partners across various sectors and may involve assisting the IDOH DOC when activated.

  • Familiarity with how to utilize GeoAI (or ability to learn the skill)

Responsibilities

  • Regularly engage with stakeholders and partners at the GIO, other agencies, state/local health departments, private sector, etc.
  • Manage GIS team project work deliverables and deadlines through the use of project management skills (communication, organization, metric tracking, etc.)
  • Serve as team leader/point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team under the Data Products program in the Office of Data & Analytics
  • Utilize data governance best practices, especially those related to GIS products
  • Provide geostatistical analysis, measurements or reports related to communicable disease surveillance, outbreaks, disasters and public health preparedness activities.
  • Create and maintain visualizations of data and statistical results.
  • Create and maintain accurate geospatial datasets.
  • Develop and maintain workflows that integrate datasets and automate analytical methods.
  • Develop web-based applications utilizing both configurable services and customized development.
  • Utilize appropriate geographic information system software and other statistical packages.
  • Provide recommendations to supervisors and developers regarding data workflow methodology.
  • Assist the IDOH DOC when activated with logistical support.
  • Other duties as assigned
