About The Position

The Girls Wrestling - Head Coach will carry out the goals and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the school administration. This role involves instructing athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success. The coach is expected to serve as a role model for student athletes, promoting character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in accomplishment. The position also involves upgrading knowledge and skills through coaching clinics and consultations. The success of athletic programs significantly influences the community's image of the school system, and while community/parent pressure for winning is taxing, it must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health.

Requirements

  • Experience and ability to organize and supervise a total wrestling program (Grades 7-12).
  • Previous successful coaching experience in the sport of wrestling.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of wrestling.
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures in wrestling.
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes.
  • Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Perry Local Schools' Board of Education.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
  • Ability to delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate assistants.
  • Ability to maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and increase morale and cooperation.
  • Ability to assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and event requirements.
  • Ability to assist in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
  • Ability to coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Ability to provide documentation for state and system requirements (physical exams, parental consent, eligibility).
  • Ability to serve as a mentor to promote character development in student athletes.
  • Ability to monitor student athletes' grades and conduct.
  • Ability to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for participants.
  • Ability to determine discipline and delineate due process procedures.
  • Ability to contact parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
  • Ability to assist athletes in college or advanced educational selection.
  • Ability to participate in the budgeting process and establish requirements for the next season.
  • Accountability for all uniforms and equipment.
  • Responsibility for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
  • Ability to organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
  • Ability to promote the sport within and outside the school.
  • Responsibility for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of media releases.
  • Ability to maintain good public relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
  • Satisfy all statutory provisions governing submission of all pre-employment requirements including a criminal background check and recommendation of prior employer(s).

Responsibilities

  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
  • Design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance.
  • Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness at the season's end.
  • Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation among staff.
  • Assist the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, and meeting requirements for tournaments and special sport events.
  • Assist in the necessary preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to scheduled facility times.
  • Coordinate the program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration of character traits.
  • Give constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
  • Communicate training rules and other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete.
  • Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process, and contact parents when a student becomes dropped or ineligible.
  • Assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
  • Participate in the budgeting process with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season.
  • Collect the cost of any equipment or uniforms lost or not returned.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and matches, checking on general cleanliness.
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
  • Promote the sport within the school by recruiting athletes and outside the school through news media, little league programs, or other feasible means.
  • Be responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media.
  • Maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
  • Present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.
