About The Position

The Girls Volleyball Coach will serve as a member of the Athletic Department, leading an athletic team for high school students in a “best fit” environment for teenagers with significant barriers to education. Indianapolis Metropolitan High School’s Athletic Department is committed to using athletics to help develop student-athletes who exemplify the Puma Promise character traits: Professional, Unstoppable, Motivated, Accountable, and Supportive. Athletics should serve as a catalyst for students’ academic success during their time at Indy Met and for their post-secondary success in college or the workforce. School priorities include: High rigor, high support instruction to close academic gaps and prepare students for post-secondary opportunities Trauma-informed social-emotional learning Student and family empowerment through coordination with a robust Student Services team of coaches, counselors, and more.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrates abilities in providing timely guidance and effective feedback to motivate others to strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task, solve a problem, or prepare for any sporting hobby, career, event. Models concepts of motivational interviewing, coaching, and reflective practice in a specific sporting area.
  • Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.
  • Develops, maintains, and strengthens partnerships at all levels with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support. Is able to receive as well as provide feedback to improve performance or processes.
  • Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office.
  • Manages competing demands by effectively organizing issues by relevance considering operational objectives and customer service excellence. Excellent time management, planning, scheduling, and coordination skills. Is able to work in a highly structured environment and quickly adapts to changes in priorities or deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude. Effectively navigates complex situations to ensure that tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Takes a strengths-based, student-centered approach to developing relationships at all levels while establishing appropriate boundaries. Adept at delivering feedback that is constructive and unbiased. Creates and maintains a safe environment for open discussions.
  • Anticipates, diffuses, and resolves disagreements, confrontations, tensions, and complaints in a practical and constructive manner in order to achieve results.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, has a drive to succeed at any task, produces consistent and high-quality work, is organized and timely, and is able to work with minimal supervision.
  • All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Indiana Teaching Certification in the subject specialty, or the willingness and eligibility to obtain an emergency teaching license.
  • Displays a working knowledge of the IHSAA bylaws

Responsibilities

  • Uses Puma Points to acknowledge small wins across student-athletes and reinforces Puma Promise school values.
  • Develops students and team athletically
  • Ensures compliance with all state and local laws and policies
  • Communicates with students, families, and the school.
  • Arrives on time and is present for all practices and contests.
  • Supervises student-athletes. Ensures student-athlete health and safety.
  • Uses and secures the facility.
  • Maintains supply and uniform inventory.
  • Oversees student travel.
  • Provides financial oversight.
  • Follows Goodwill media and marketing policies.
  • Supports the Athletic Department
  • Celebrates students by sharing nominations for athletes of the week (using Puma Promise) and nominating students for athletic awards.
  • Fundraises for the Athletic Department.
  • Volunteers at contests to support the Athletic Department.
