About The Position

The North Plainfield School District is seeking a Girls' Middle School Head Basketball Coach. This position is responsible for leading, organizing, and supervising the middle school girls' basketball program. The coach will focus on technical skill development, tactical instruction, team conditioning, and game preparation, with primary game-day coaching duties for the Middle School team. The candidate must model positive sportsmanship, prioritize academic success, and enforce district athletic policies. Requirements

• Valid State Teaching Certification or State Substitute Credential.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Mandatory State & District Clearances: Approved Criminal History Background Check / Fingerprinting clearance.
• Current Medical Physical Clearance.
• Required Certifications (or willingness to complete prior to start date): Current CPR / AED / First Aid Certification.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
• NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification.
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest & Heat Illness Prevention Certifications.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to mentor middle school student-athletes effectively and maintain high ethical standards.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Successful high school or collegiate playing/coaching experience in basketball preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of basketball rules, fundamental techniques, defensive/offensive strategies, and conditioning methods.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and evaluate daily practice sessions.
• Provide targeted, individual and small-group instruction focusing on core skill sets (dribbling, shooting, passing, footwork, and defensive positioning).
• Support the implementation of offensive and defensive team concepts to ensure program consistency across all levels.
• Serve as the primary coach for the Middle School Girls' Basketball team, managing bench strategy, playing time, and in-game adjustments.
