About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing the implementation of state law regarding Gifted & Talented students, including identification, data collection, communication, and service delivery. The role involves administering assessments, collaborating with teachers and parents, and ensuring compliance with all relevant statutes and policies.

Requirements

  • Valid Kentucky Certification
  • Scores at or above the 90th percentile for students considered for the Primary Talent Pool.
  • Scores in the 9th stanine (96th percentile and above) for students considered for the Gifted Program on national normed referenced assessments that include composite scores and are endorsed by the Kentucky Department of Education.
  • Scores at or above 128 on an aptitude test (9th stanine) for students qualifying for special considerations (minority, special education, English Language Learners, disadvantaged students).
  • Evidence that qualifies students for special considerations (minority, special education, English Language Learners, disadvantaged students).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementing of state law regarding Gifted & Talented: KRS 157.196, 157.200 (1) (n), 157.224, 157.230 and 704 KAR 3:285.
  • Facilitate the administration, scoring, and/or recording of intelligence tests endorsed by the Kentucky Department of Education for 3rd and 6th grade students.
  • Facilitate the administration, scoring and/or recording of creativity, leadership, music, visual arts, dance, and drama assessments for various grade levels.
  • Prepare, distribute, and record data from parent, student, and educator surveys.
  • Prepare Individual Student Folders after the first standardized test results.
  • Prepare, distribute, and record data of teacher recommendations for students exhibiting characteristics of giftedness.
  • Collect Primary Progress Reports data for students meeting general intellectual and/or subject area criteria.
  • Document all continuously collected data on each student.
  • Schedule and meet with each school’s identification committee for formal identification of students.
  • Facilitate communication with parents of identified students.
  • Sponsor fall and spring parent meetings.
  • Prepare Individual Gifted and Talented Student Service Plans.
  • Provide lists of students to teachers responsible for delivering differentiated core classroom services.
  • Prepare Individual Gifted and Talented Services Evaluation Plans.
  • Develop individualized studies with students during initial GT/RtI meetings.
  • Monitor differentiation of core instruction and other gifted service options during GT/RtI meetings.
  • Conduct grievance procedures regarding talent pool services.
  • Follow timelines for all gifted identification and communication procedures.
  • Work with building level coordinators to ensure compliance with all GT requirements.
  • Prepare end-of-year GT reports for the district.
  • Prepare end-of-year summative evaluation of the program and student process.
  • Administer and revise the gifted education program as needed.
  • Perform related duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by Instructional Supervisors and the Superintendent.
