About The Position

The Gift Shop Associate provides operational support to the Gift Shop Manager. This is a full-time position with 32 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The role involves operating the cash register, processing transactions, stocking inventory, entering new inventory into the POS system, and pricing merchandise. It also includes following department opening, closing, and security procedures, preparing and reconciling cash receipts for deposit, answering phones, taking phone orders, and providing guidance and training to Gift Shop volunteers under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in a retail environment.
  • Experience with cash registers and computers.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal relations and communications skills.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment.
  • Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the cash register and accurately processes cash and credit card transactions.
  • Stocks inventory, enters new inventory into POS system, and prices merchandise.
  • Follows department opening, closing, and security procedures.
  • May prepare, reconcile, and record cash receipts for deposit upon request.
  • Answers phones and takes phone orders and messages with timely and accurate follow-through.
  • Provide guidance and training to Gift Shop volunteers under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager.
