About The Position

The Gift Shop Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Trinity Gift Shop by coordinating tasks related to merchandise display, customer service, and inventory support. This role serves as the primary liaison between the Trinity Auxiliary and the Hospital regarding gift shop activities, as merchandise is purchased through Auxiliary funds. Working collaboratively with Auxiliary members, hospital staff, and volunteers, the assistant helps ensure the gift shop operates smoothly and efficiently while maintaining a welcoming, service-oriented environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position supports fundraising efforts that benefit Trinity Health programs and services and contributes to a positive, community-focused atmosphere grounded in teamwork and shared purpose.

Requirements

  • Experience in gift shop or other retail operation.
  • Purchasing and managing inventory, displaying merchandise, and understanding financials.
  • Work requires frequent standing, light walking, and occasional bending or reaching to stock merchandise and organize displays.
  • Must be able to lift or move items up to 20 pounds, such as small boxes of inventory.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required for handling merchandise, operating a cash register, and performing basic clerical tasks.
  • Work is performed in an indoor retail environment within the hospital.
  • Exposure includes regular interaction with patients, visitors, and staff in a publicfacing setting.
  • The role may involve working in small spaces, navigating busy areas, and maintaining a calm, friendly demeanor in varying levels of foot traffic.
  • Compliance with hospital infectioncontrol and safety policies is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily retail operations, including opening/closing procedures, organizing merchandise, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Provide customer service to patients, visitors, and staff by answering questions, offering product support, and assisting with selections or special requests.
  • Support inventory activities such as unpacking merchandise, restocking shelves, rotating displays, and identifying low stock items.
  • Coordinate communication between the Trinity Auxiliary and Hospital departments regarding gift shop needs, purchases, and operational updates.
  • Assist with gift shop fundraising and promotional activities that support Auxiliary initiatives and hospital programs.
