About The Position

The GI Technician role at Cooper University Health Care involves preparing and cleaning endoscopic equipment, maintaining inventory, ensuring equipment functionality, and assisting physicians and nurses during procedures. This position also includes patient transport, specimen collection, collaboration with care providers, and staying updated on endoscopy developments. Additionally, the role may involve business office support, including training on EPIC applications, front desk registration, and copay collection. The GI Technician will work in outpatient units at Mt. Laurel and Willingboro, and potentially the inpatient/outpatient Special Test Unit (STU) in the main hospital, serving diagnostic and therapeutic needs for the Gastroenterology Division. Common procedures include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy (in STU). Staff includes surgical schedulers, patient service representatives, nurses, GI technicians, and anesthesiology support.

Requirements

GI tech experience and/or patient care experience (medical assistant, patient care technician, etc.)
Ability to learn IDX and EPIC applications
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
Must be able to travel to Willingboro or Camden (if needed)
Must be flexible for desk duties (if needed)

Responsibilities

Prepare rooms and equipment before endoscopic procedures.
Clean and sterilize equipment after procedures.
Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies for endoscopic procedures.
Ensure equipment functions properly.
Prepare waiting and recovery rooms or procedure suites.
Maintain endoscopic equipment, including cleaning, disinfecting, and calibrating instruments according to manufacturer guidelines.
Transport patients according to medical personnel instructions.
Help physicians and nurses perform endoscopic procedures.
Attend training as necessary to enhance or refresh skills.
Collect specimens from patients.
Collaborate effectively with other care providers regarding procedures and patients' conditions.
Stay current on endoscopy developments by reading literature, speaking with colleagues, or participating in professional organizations.
Assist with Business Office Support duties.
Be trained to use EPIC applications and perform front desk registration & copay collection.
