About The Position

This position focuses on the pre-cleaning and high-level disinfection of GI scopes and other GI-related equipment to ensure their safe use on patients. The role involves meticulous cleaning, quality checks, and maintenance of equipment to uphold patient safety standards within the healthcare environment.

Requirements

High School diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) preferred.
Sterile processing experience preferred.
Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Skilled in pre-cleaning and high-level disinfection of GI scopes and GI related equipment.
Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers.
Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force (Medium Work).
Frequently Performed Physical Activities: Balancing, Carrying, Crouching, Distinguish colors, Keyboarding/typing, Lifting, Pulling/Pushing, Repetitive Motions, Standing, Stooping/bending, Twisting, Walking.
Constantly Performed Physical Activities: Grasping, Hearing, Reaching, Seeing/Visual, Speaking/talking.
Exposure to chemical agents (Toxic, Corrosive, Flammable, Latex) is rare.
Exposure to biological agents (primary airborne and blood borne viruses) is occasional.
Exposure to physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, outdoors, sharps) is occasional.

Nice To Haves

Completion of Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (GI Scope) Certification (CFER) required within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Pre-clean and disinfect GI scopes and other GI related equipment.
Perform quality checks on high-level disinfection and random scopes.
Keep the work area stocked with appropriate supplies.
Properly label scopes with expiration dates and reprocess expired scopes.
Prepare damaged scopes to be sent for repair.
Check in scopes that return from repair.
Prepare scopes for annual preventative maintenance.
Perform daily checks on Medivator machines.
Package and send required equipment to sterile processing daily.
Change disinfection solution and associated filters in Medivator and stand-alone units per manufacturer's guidelines.
Check temperatures on stand-alone units prior to each wash cycle and manage as necessary.
Perform annual scope room competencies with RN staff to ensure proper handling and disinfecting of GI equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
