About The Position

Lead, train, and manage employees in the gestation area of a farm to maximize production, efficiency, and profitability. This role has overall accountability for gestation performance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred
  • 2+ Years Livestock Experience with High School Diploma Preferred
  • My Pipestone New Hire Courses: Introduction, Animal Welfare, Biosecurity, Employee Handbook, PQA, Safety
  • Additional Position Related My Pipestone Assigned Training: Monthly Animal Welfare, Biosecurity and Safety Topics, Annual Safety Refresher Training

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the gestation team by training employees on production protocols, monitoring performance, developing specialized skills, and training in animal husbandry to reduce herd stress and maximize production.
  • Maximize daily tasks of the department to achieve production targets.
  • Complete area paperwork accurately and timely, and train gestation employees in required production paperwork.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with area employees and farm management, utilizing task sheets and time frames for an organized workday.
  • Monitor task schedules for self and gestation area employees.
  • Provide daily input to farm management on production, animal health, and gestation employee issues.
  • Train gestation employees on how their personal performance affects the organization's finances.
  • Ensure gestation paperwork is completed accurately and on time, including work-related injury paperwork and accident investigation participation.
  • Daily recording of monitored production items.
  • Adhere to all bio-security protocols, train gestation staff on bio-security, and monitor employee compliance.
  • Ensure gestation area bio-security audit deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, teach gestation area employees safety procedures, and monitor employee compliance.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is in place and utilized.
  • Learn accident prevention measures for the gestation area, train gestation employees, and monitor employee activity for compliance.
  • Consistently monitor animal welfare procedures in the gestation area.
  • Monitor and ensure the gestation area ventilation system is in good working order.
  • Regularly monitor the environment to achieve optimum comfort for the animals.
  • Train gestation area employees to provide regular input to maintain optimum comfort for animals.
  • Maintain and keep the facility well-kept.
  • Train and direct gestation staff to complete routine maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Communicate non-routine repairs to farm management.
  • Train, direct, and monitor staff to keep the gestation area clean and organized.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by farm management.
