About The Position

GZA’s Manhattan, New York office is seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager/Senior Project Manager . The successful candidate will represent the Company with our clients throughout proposal, contract and project performance phases, will be responsible for day to day execution of technical and financial aspects of each project, will be involved with marketing activities and networking events, and will be involved with the development and mentoring of staff. Project Managers work to successfully execute all aspects of projects under the guidance and supervision of a company Principal. The successful candidate will have ownership opportunities with the firm and the potential for advancement to principal levels. Our geotechnical projects involve buildings, bridges, highways, railroads, tunnels and marine and waterfront developments, water resources and dams, geo-structural analysis, soil and rock slope stabilization, automated instrumentation programs, resource evaluations, shallow and deep foundation design, earth retention design and ground improvement programs. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of and documented experience in a representative portion of these practice areas. Primary Responsibilities: Internal and client communications Managing project team, delegating to office and field staff and executing day to day activities of projects Monitoring team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets Overseeing and execution of technical design deliverables in accordance with our QA/QC guidelines Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing geotechnical deliverables with Principal guidance and review Staff training and staff reviews Managing project contractual and financial issues (including terms of agreement, changes in scope, billing process, and account receivable) Providing business development support Support GZA’s “One Company” approach by assisting with tasks outside primary responsibilities as needed Typical Duties May Include: Manage and mentor GZA existing staff of staff-level and project-level engineers Monitoring and documenting geotechnical aspects of construction projects Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations Participating in meetings and agency consultation Site compliance inspections and occasional Special Inspection as P.E. Developing construction plans and specifications Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates Performing and overseeing geotechnical computer modeling. Experience with geotechnical engineering programs including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile and Plaxis is preferred. Instrumentation, deep excavation support systems and urban geotechnical design experience desirable. Out of town assignments may be expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 7-15 years of relevant experience since college graduation
  • Experienced computer skills using MS Office and geotechnical engineering software
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience with financial project management
  • Demonstrated delegation, leadership, and team building skills
  • Experience in execution and management of multiple office and field tasks
  • P.E. required, New York preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with geotechnical engineering programs including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile and Plaxis is preferred.
  • Instrumentation, deep excavation support systems and urban geotechnical design experience desirable.
