About The Position

EVS is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to support geotechnical investigations and field testing for a variety of infrastructure, renewable energy, and development projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, traveling to project sites, and building hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and field professionals performing site investigations, collecting field data, and helping ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in geotechnical engineering, construction, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous field, construction, surveying, geotechnical, or materials testing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in learning geotechnical field-testing methods, soil classification, and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical testing equipment and field procedures is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate field documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work safely while following established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to travel for projects, including assignments of up to 14 consecutive days.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with geotechnical site investigations and field testing under the guidance of experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Help evaluate site access, stake testing locations, and prepare project sites for field activities.
  • Support drilling subcontractors by documenting field boring logs and collecting soil samples.
  • Learn to identify soil types and accurately document field observations.
  • Perform or assist with field resistivity testing, pile load testing, test pits, and other geotechnical field investigations.
  • Assist with additional field activities such as groundwater monitoring, percolation testing, and minor site preparation as needed.
  • Follow all company and client safety procedures, including completing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), vehicle inspections, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Help inspect, maintain, clean, and organize field equipment to ensure proper operation and calibration.
  • Maintain accurate field logs, testing records, photographs, and daily documentation.
  • Enter field data into company systems, including Monday.com, on the same day testing is completed.
  • Communicate observations and testing results with geotechnical engineers to support project reporting and analysis.
  • Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, clients, and project teams to ensure efficient field operations and project execution.
