About The Position

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Field Professional to join our team in Bridgeville, PA. This role involves hands-on fieldwork, problem-solving, and contributing to impactful infrastructure and development projects. The position offers an opportunity to work closely with senior geotechnical staff, build expertise, and take ownership of routine assignments while contributing to advanced field observations, testing, and reporting. A strong local presence in the Pittsburgh / Southwestern Pennsylvania region is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field
  • 1–5+ years of experience in geotechnical field work, COT, or construction testing/inspection REQUIRED
  • Experience with soil classification, subsurface exploration, and field testing methods
  • Familiarity with geotechnical calculations (settlement, bearing capacity, slope stability, etc.)
  • Ability to prepare or contribute to geotechnical exploration reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with field and office teams
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced observations and testing for the Construction Observation and Testing (COT) group (e.g., foundation inspections, proofrolls)
  • Coordinate drilling activities including utility clearance, subsurface exploration oversight, site characterization, and visual soil classification
  • Coordinate and review laboratory testing
  • Prepare geotechnical exploration reports, including figures, test results, and logs
  • Perform engineering calculations (settlement, bearing capacity, lateral earth pressure, pavement design, slope stability) with guidance from senior staff
  • Assist in design efforts for retaining walls and other structures
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members throughout the workday
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal assistance and identifying potential opportunities
