Provide geotechnical engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. Work may include field investigations, engineering analysis and calculations, recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and writing, preparing, and reviewing related reports. Review drawings and construction for compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress and budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply geotechnical engineering principles and communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may support existing or proposed projects in sectors such as public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial. This is a developing geotechnical engineering role with assignments designed to build knowledge and abilities. The engineer assists with research, data collection, field observation, inspection, and field and laboratory testing; prepares associated reports or report sections; evaluates mostly routine laboratory and field data; consults with technical colleagues and a supervisor on routine and less complex projects; and may perform basic calculations and engineering analysis. The role drafts routine proposals, assists with more complex proposals, and performs plan drafting using CAD software. It may also involve working with engineering technician crews on project-site testing, observations, and data gathering, and preparing daily reports documenting activities and findings. The position works under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
