About The Position
The Geotechnical Engineering Intern will partner closely with the Geotechnical and Mine Planning teams to support engineering projects for our Nevada Projects portfolio. This is a project-based internship. Rather than generalized administrative tasks, you will be assigned a core technical project to own from start to finish. This role offers hands-on experience, culminating in an end-of-program presentation to technical leadership.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a rising senior in an Undergraduate program or final-year Master's or PhD student pursuing a degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Foundational understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, hydrology, and engineering geology principles.
- Strong technical writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyze datasets, draw logical conclusions, and present findings clearly.
- A collaborative mindset with an eagerness to learn and proactively ask questions.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license required; willingness to travel to project sites if necessary.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with or strong interest in open-pit operations and geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience, Unwedge) or mine planning tools is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a dedicated 12-week project, managing timelines, and delivering a final technical report and presentation.
- Learn to review geotechnical engineering deliverables and design criteria, including parameters for open-pit slopes, waste dumps, and related infrastructure.
- Assist the team in technical trade-off studies to support geotechnical design and mine planning solutions.
- Support the design, execution, and data analysis of geotechnical investigation and testwork programs alongside the engineering team.
