About The Position

S&ME is seeking a recent graduate to begin their career as an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer in Greensboro, North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and address real-world challenges with guidance from experienced mentors. The position involves working on diverse projects across public, private, energy, and transportation sectors under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Projects range from schools and hospitals to airports, industrial facilities, data centers, and pipelines, all contributing to the development of safer and improved environments. The role emphasizes significant field work for hands-on experience and includes office-based tasks such as data analysis and report writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mining, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in geotechnical or geological projects.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with the desire to pursue PE licensure in the future.
  • A passion for Geology and Geotechnical solutions, with a strong interest in field and analytical work.
  • Basic technical writing skills at the college level.
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical demands including working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking over rough terrain, standing up to 12 hours a day, and routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours and travel as project needs arise.
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage field exploration and drilling activities.
  • Gather, describe, and document soil and rock samples from various sites.
  • Analyze subsurface conditions and manage soil and rock laboratory testing.
  • Support engineering and geological assessments and calculations.
  • Prepare detailed reports including findings, insights, and recommendations.
  • Provide geological expertise to support geotechnical designs, including site characterizations and risk assessments.
