About The Position

CTL Engineering is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT or PE) to play a key role in performing geotechnical explorations and investigations for clients. This role involves leveraging expertise and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating with institutions/municipal agencies, Architects, Engineers, Developers, and project teams to deliver customized geotechnical studies, reports, and solutions. The position will guide projects through every stage of the land profile evaluation process, ensuring seamless integration and optimal results. The ideal candidate is passionate about staying ahead of industry trends, enjoys problem-solving, and has a creative approach to the geotechnical field. Projects range from infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and unique engineering, primarily located in north-central Kentucky/southern Indiana within a 60-90 mile radius of the Shelbyville/east Louisville office. This role requires at least 30-40% field work, with occasional overnight travel (a couple of nights a month). A company vehicle or reimbursement for personal vehicle use is available. The position is based out of the Shelbyville (east Louisville) office.

Requirements

  • 0-4+ years of experience in consulting engineering on various civil projects
  • EIT credentialing is a strong plus, but the ability to get EIT and PE is required (must have ABET accredited degree)
  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to read design drawings.
  • Ability to meet schedules.
  • Experience with common geotechnical software or be able to utilize software with minimal training.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, quality minded, and detail oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performing geotechnical explorations, site characterizations, and risk evaluation on developments.
  • Training and supervision of lab technicians (based on experience), maintenance of quality reviews and certifications, management of equipment inventory and calibration, client marketing and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to work independently on broad projects with oversight/supervision by the Service Line Manager.
  • Providing direction on a project-to-project basis – i.e. preparing lab testing assignments, reviewing documents, and testing results for content and accuracy.
  • Preparing geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Reviewing soils laboratory test results.
  • Assisting in planning and the execution of subsurface investigation programs - including the understanding of project design plans, locating test borings at project sites, coordinating underground utility clearance.
  • Monitoring and enforcing quality control standards and specifications.
