About The Position

Peter Lucas Project Management is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their team and support a client in mining operations. The role involves providing technical expertise for underground mining operations, focusing on ground support design, geotechnical assessments, and monitoring during ramp development. The successful candidate will ensure safe and effective mine development while offering geotechnical recommendations and solutions to site teams. This is a site-based position in Kamloops, BC, with a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, requiring the ability to work independently in an active mining environment.

Requirements

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering designation (P.Eng.).
  • Experience providing geotechnical engineering support in underground mining environments.
  • Experience with ground support design, excavation stability, and underground development activities.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical monitoring techniques, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
  • Ability to conduct field assessments and work effectively in an active mine site environment.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining practices, ground control principles, and safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work a 7 days on / 7 days off site rotation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to site as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical assessments and provide engineering support for underground ramp development activities.
  • Develop, review, and optimize ground support designs based on site conditions and geotechnical data.
  • Monitor ground conditions and provide recommendations to support safe mining operations.
  • Conduct field inspections, mapping, and data collection to assess excavation stability and ground behaviour.
  • Analyze geotechnical information and provide technical guidance to mine operations and engineering teams.
  • Support the implementation and review of ground control strategies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with mining engineers, supervisors, and site personnel to address geotechnical risks and operational challenges.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and recommendations related to ground conditions and support systems.
  • Participate in site safety programs and ensure compliance with mine safety standards and procedures.
