Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Degree in related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible to obtain registration in near term.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience (in an engineering consulting environment in Ontario preferred).
  • Experience in performing geotechnical analysis and interpreting subsurface investigation data.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate geotechnical conditions and develop practical solutions.
  • A thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret regulations, guidelines and standards with excellent professional judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to successfully organize, prioritize and execute work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Safety conscious and team oriented with the ability to coach, guide and mentor others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical writing skills with excellent communication skills with fluency (reading, writing and oral) in English.
  • Experience in developing and administering project proposals, work plans, and project costing/budgeting.
  • A valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage geotechnical projects involving private and municipal developments, racetracks, medium and high-rise structures, infrastructure projects, slope stability assessments, and dam safety reviews.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that meet client and project requirements.
  • Oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring high-quality technical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical staff, support the development of junior team members, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Geotechnical service group.
  • Participate in business development activities, client engagement, and the growth of geotechnical services in the local market.
  • Project management, technical leadership, and technical design for public and private sector clients in Ontario.
  • Develop and administer project proposals, work plans, and project costing/budgeting.
  • Lead and support geotechnical field investigations, including borehole drilling, test pit excavation, in situ testing, instrumentation installation, and construction observation services.
  • Conduct site inspections during construction to assess field conditions, verify compliance with design recommendations, and provide practical solutions to geotechnical challenges.
  • Directly responsible for the health and safety of any person working on an assignment.
  • Conduct project site inspections to ensure compliance with all safety and government regulations.
  • Directly accountable for revenue, costs and profitability, and risk management on all project tasks assigned.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to junior and intermediate Cambium personnel.
  • Ensure that appropriate resources are provided to enable engineering support and training support to be provided for all projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to provide geotechnical expertise and contribute to innovative, technically robust solutions.
  • Analyze geotechnical and geological data to develop recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, pavements, and slope stability.
  • Prepare concise, technically sound reports, design memoranda, and construction documentation that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Foster strong client relationships by delivering responsive service, dependable technical advice, and high-quality project outcomes.
