About The Position

Braun Intertec is seeking a Geotechnical Drilling Crew Chief to join our Bloomington, MN location. The Crew Chief has primary responsibility for performing subsurface investigations for geotechnical and environmental purposes. A subsurface investigation can involve collecting soil, rock, groundwater samples, and logging the field data. These investigations take place over a wide variety of terrain, conditions, and weather. The Crew Chief is responsible for all aspects of the drilling operation in the field and aligned reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of related drilling experience required
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and acceptable driving record required, CDL A preferred
  • Ability to pass a driving / road test
  • 40-hour Hazmat Training preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors, in a field / construction work setting, in a physical role, in all types of weather conditions and terrain
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis, 75lbs occasionally
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, clients, and supervisors, while fostering a collaborative and engaging work environment
  • Ability to pass a pre employment DOT drug screen, criminal background check and motor vehicle record check
  • Dependable, the ability to maintain reliable attendance and work a full-time schedule which sometimes includes weekend and night work
  • Must be available for travel up to 50%, occasionally on short notice, including nights and weekends as needed

  • 40-hour Hazmat Training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate the drill rig and oversee drilling operations for auger borings, rock coring, monitoring wells, instrumentation installation and other types of drilling as required
  • Know when to use different drilling methods
  • Collect and log factual field data to the specifications and/or job instructions provided
  • Keep a boring/coring log of data and samples obtained and other required information
  • Training and supervision of drilling assistant on the drilling site
  • Communication with project managers, clients, schedulers and supervisors
  • Responsible for daily production and efficient use of drill crew’s time as required by project scope of work
  • Responsible for maintenance, repair and general condition of the drill rig, support truck and other equipment
  • Must be able to diagnose mechanical problems and perform necessary repairs
  • Responsible for promoting and adhering to safe work practices
  • Use required and approved personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all functions
  • Responsible for the safety of the drill crew and other site personnel
  • Operate drill rigs, tractor trailers and support vehicles in safe and lawful manner, maintain a valid commercial drivers license with an insurable driving record
  • Maintain necessary documentation relating to the operation of commercial motor vehicles
  • Driving of DOT regulated vehicles and all responsibilities and knowledge that is required to stay in compliance with DOT requirements
  • Daily inspections of equipment to satisfy DOT requirements and the proper record keeping as required by DOT regulations
