About The Position

Under direct supervision, performs entry-level technical work by assisting the general public, and creating, updating, and maintaining geospatial datasets for the County including the County addressing database. Requirements

  • Knowledge of geospatial methods, practices, and applications.
  • Knowledge of basic mapping principles.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripherals specific to geospatial applications.
  • Knowledge of electronic digitization methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of analytical and research procedures.
  • Knowledge of public relations/customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Portal.
  • Skill utilizing ArcGIS Pro or other client-side desktop applications for GIS.
  • Skill utilizing a variety of computer software and peripherals to develop basemaps, map layers and topographical maps.
  • Skill utilizing verbal and written communication skills to develop and provide technical assistance and training related to geospatial technology, including software.
  • Skill creating and/or migrating data to/from various media types and formats.
  • Skill utilizing customer service techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill effectively communicating in both oral and written form.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science or a closely related field. One (1) year of direct work experience in a geospatial work environment. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • An Associate’s degree in Geographic Information Science or a closely related field. Three (3) years of direct work experience in a geospatial work environment. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • The equivalent of a high school diploma and five (5) years of direct work experience in a geospatial work environment. A valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Science or closely related field and a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems from an accredited college are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains; edits and creates geospatial map layers; maintains, updates, and creates the general map layers within the county; integrates new data sets into the system; collects data and enters into geodatabases; creates various spatial datasets for users; provides spatial analysis of datasets; assists in the development and management of geodatabases/schemas/domains;
  • Work in team with 911 Specialist and other Technicians to manage addressing database for E-911 and reviews subdivision plats to plan addressing schematics and road layouts;
  • Assists Election Commission by researching voter address issues – can require fieldwork;
  • Assists Specialists and Developers with special projects;
  • Assists HCGIS Partners with data and technical support requests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
