About The Position

The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University (CSU) is seeking a temporary hourly employee to assist with collaborative research and development for the Geolocated Information Processing System (GeoIPS). This position is expected to last approximately 3 months, with a possibility of extension up to 9 months, contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance. The role involves supporting the implementation of new remote sensing algorithms, ingesting new data feeds, and maintaining the system for both near real-time and batch processing. This is a fully remote position, with communication conducted via video conference.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience developing software in Python.
  • Experience using scientific data processing packages for Python such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn.
  • Experience working with git and on open-source projects.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or Lawful Permanent Resident with a physical USCIS “Green Card” because this position is funded by a US Department of Defense contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Linux environments.
  • Experience developing in a compiled language (e.g. C, C++, Go, Fortran).
  • Interest in satellite remote sensing.
  • Experience interacting with databases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Python-based plugins for GeoIPS.
  • Assist with running and monitoring GeoIPS near real-time and batch processing.
  • Assist with integration of a new low-bandwidth data feed into the GeoIPS processing flow.
