GeoSpatial Engineer - DoorDash Air

DoorDash USA•San Francisco, CA
•$193,800 - $285,000

About The Position

DoorDash Labs, an independent team within DoorDash, is hiring a geospatial software engineer to work at the intersection of software engineering and robotics. The role applies geospatial and robotics solutions to business problems involving autonomous delivery systems. The engineer will build pipelines that ingest and process terrain, sensor logs, point clouds, and building footprints; develop spatial algorithms to classify terrain and detect obstacles for safe, reliable navigation; scale high-performance spatial data storage and retrieval systems; and build map services, including Vector Tiles and APIs, to serve and visualize complex 3D environments and fleet positions in web-based mission control dashboards.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., PhD, or equivalent in Computer Science.
  • At least 6 years of industry experience as a geospatial engineer.
  • Experience with scientific Python and geospatial data science.
  • Knowledge of Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) and associated transformations.
  • Expert-level proficiency with PostGIS or an equivalent tool for managing complex geometries and spatial relationships.
  • Ability to write logic to solve geometric problems, such as determining whether a 3D trajectory intersects a static obstacle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kotlin, Java, and/or Go.
  • Experience with distributed computing, such as Spark.
  • Experience using PDAL, PCL, or Python tools such as Open3D and NumPy to process and analyze raw LiDAR data.

Responsibilities

  • Ingest and process geospatial data such as terrain, sensor logs, point clouds, and building footprints.
  • Develop spatial algorithms to classify terrain and detect obstacles for safe and reliable autonomous navigation.
  • Design and scale high-performance spatial data storage and retrieval systems to meet growing fleet throughput demands.
  • Build high-performance map services, including Vector Tiles and APIs, to render complex 3D environments and fleet positions in web-based mission control dashboards.

Benefits

  • 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Wellness benefits.
  • Commuter benefits match.
  • Paid time off and paid sick leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 11 paid holidays.
