About The Position

We are currently seeking a Geologist / Senior Geological Technologist to join our Mines Technical Services team at Creighton in Sudbury. This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers. As a Geologist / Senior Geological Technologist, you will provide geological oversight and support to underground execution geology. Your experience and skills will work closely with Engineering, Ground Control and Operations to support the mine designs for the Life of Mine Plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, Bachelor of Geological Engineering, or Geological Technology Diploma
  • Progressive eligibility for APGO, registered GIT.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Outlook, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Datamine, Deswik.
  • Knowledge of Geological Systems including: AMGC (All Mines Grade Control), MEBS (Mines Exploration Bore Hole System), LIMS, Diamond Drill Hole Layouts, and M&D (Mineability and Dilution Database).
  • Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining Processes.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to departmental safety programs and report hazards.
  • Provide grade control and cut-off grade guidance to optimize ore recovery.
  • Communicate daily geological information, interpretations, and changes to operations and engineering.
  • Conduct geological and structural mapping and provide ore outlines for mine development.
  • Collect, analyze, and process geological data to support ore interpretation, resource, and reserve calculations.
  • Perform stope reconciliations, assess dilution and mineability, identify root causes, and share findings with operations.
  • Identify and recommend safety, productivity, and cost improvement opportunities.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Chief Mine Geologist.
  • Regular underground travel is required.
