About The Position

The Geologist II will be tasked with geologically mapping blast patterns, pit highwalls from daily shovel advances, final mine walls, interpretating geology to the Technical Services, Operations and Process teams, perform the daily ore control duties, assist with geologic 3D modelling, database tasks, preforming QA-QC on assay data, and planning and supervising drilling projects. Must be comfortable spending 50% of time in the field in all weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering required.
  • Must be comfortable spending 50% of time in the field in all weather conditions.
  • Good working knowledge of modern safety systems.
  • Each employee will take prime responsibility for ensuring that s/he works within all required safety procedures and processes.
  • Candidates must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Offers of employment are contingent upon a successful criminal background check and pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Economic Geology preferred.
  • Three years previous experience preferred.
  • Previous work experience in exploration or production geology or geological engineering beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Geologically mapping blast patterns, pit highwalls from daily shovel advances, and final mine walls.
  • Interpreting geology to the Technical Services, Operations and Process teams.
  • Performing daily ore control duties.
  • Assisting with geologic 3D modelling.
  • Performing database tasks.
  • Performing QA-QC on assay data.
  • Planning and supervising drilling projects.
  • Visiting working shovel pits and reporting interpretations at morning grade control meetings.
  • Performing all daily Ore Control functions in the field and office.
  • Updating 3D Geomodel weekly with mapping.
  • Geologic mapping of highwalls, chips, and drill core for lithology, alteration, and structure.
  • Creating and updating weekly and monthly reports.
  • Digitizing mapping, updating and creating 3D geomodelling.
  • Performing Quality assurance quality control reporting for internal and 3rd party laboratories.
  • Liaising with and advising Mine Planning, Operations, Processing, and other teams with geologic interpretations and Best Practices.
  • Performing data analytics requiring understanding of statistical theory and how to analyze and represent large datasets numerically and graphically.
  • Providing technical/logistical support for exploration drilling campaigns.
  • Collaborating with outside contractors providing services to the department.
  • Planning, supervising, and assisting in the management of drill programs and Special projects.
  • Assisting with geotechnical and hydrological tasks and interpretations.
  • Assisting with database administration.
  • Learning and using modern industry standard software suites.
