Alamos Gold Inc. Young-Davidson is currently recruiting the following challenging position to join our operations team: Exploration Geologist Alamos Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a long-term track record of creating value for all stakeholders through solid financial performance, low-cost production growth, and a company-wide commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. We currently operate three mines – two in Canada and one in Mexico – and we have a strong portfolio of development stage projects, including the Lynn Lake Project and Island Gold Phase 3+ Expansion in Canada, and Puerto Del Aire Project in Mexico. Alamos also has an early-stage exploration project in Canada, the Qiqavik Gold Project. Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologists, the successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a variety of geology assignments and assisting in multiple aspects of the exploration programs.
Requirements
- A minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science;
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Geologist in Training (GIT) or Professional Geologist (P.Geo)
- Recent Graduate - 5 years’ experience in mineral exploration
- Self-motivated with effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Strong understanding of geological principles, mineralogy, and structural geology.
- Understanding of gold deposit models, and ore-forming processes
- Experience in logging of diamond drill core
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment and community
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Leapfrog, ArcGIS, and SQL databases considered an asset
Responsibilities
- Collection, organization, and interpretation of geological data from exploration programs, including; diamond drilling, field mapping, surface sampling, and re-logging of historic drill core
- Ensures best practices for logging, sampling and database management are followed
- Collaborate with senior geologists to interpret geological information and support exploration planning and work programs
- Participate in the geological modeling process at the deposit to regional scale
- Uphold strong safety, environmental and operational standards at all times
- Contribute to reporting of interpretation and results to senior and upper management
- All other tasks related to the regional exploration programs in the Young-Davidson Mine area as required by their supervisor
