Geographic Information System (GIS)/ Engineering Services Representative (ESR) Support Technician
About The Position
Homer Electric Association (HEA) is a member-owned electric utility serving the central and southern areas of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. They are seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS)/ Engineering Services Representative (ESR) Support Technician to join their team at either their Homer or Kenai, Alaska, location. This role involves data entry, map preparation, reconciliation of materials, updating diagrams, and providing support to GIS users and departmental staff. The position also requires assisting the Engineering Services Representative position and providing professional customer service.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in computer science, GIS/Geomatics, cartography, or related field and AutoCAD training.
- One (1) year of experience with electronic mapping systems leading to a demonstrable knowledge in the use of GPS technology with an understanding of coordinate systems.
- Must submit a valid Alaska Driver's license within 90 days of hire date, and maintain a good driving record.
Nice To Haves
- An additional four (4) years of related GIS experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
- Electric utility experience working with meter accuracy GPS equipment is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Enter, edit, and verify data in the GIS system; prepare and maintain a variety of database and specialty maps, and submits final edits to the existing database.
- Work with warehouse to reconcile material released to work orders and ensure material tickets and material posted to work orders match.
- Prepare, update, and maintain one-line diagrams, switching diagrams, construction drawings, specification drawings, and related records using electronic mapping programs.
- Conduct training and assist users; provide documentation, guidance and support for the user group and departmental staff on the GIS system application and procedures, GPS systems and Document Control System related to workflow, storage and retrieval of documents.
- Work with or around consumers providing assistance and/or back up to the Engineering Services Representative position.
- Provide a highly professional level of prompt, efficient, accurate, courteous and reliable service.
