About The Position

Invitae, part of Labcorp, is seeking a Genomics Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join its team at its Metropark location in Iselin, NJ. This role is responsible for performing high-complexity diagnostic testing on patient specimens, primarily focused on NGS platforms. The technologist will perform assigned routine and non-routine laboratory experiments including NGS library preparations and sequencing using various techniques and platforms. They will follow written lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, operate laboratory instruments, perform routine maintenance and calibrations, and maintain project and sample information through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Quality control and documentation are key aspects of this role, including identifying and documenting problems, documenting exceptions, and adhering to quality assurance procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more experience working a molecular diagnostics clinical lab
  • 1 year or more Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experience

Responsibilities

  • Performing high-complexity diagnostic testing on patient specimens, primarily focused on NGS platforms
  • Performs assigned routine and non-routine laboratory experiments including NGS library preparations and sequencing using various techniques and platforms
  • Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of specimens.
  • Performs lab procedures of moderate and high complexity in accordance with standards set forth in standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Operates laboratory instruments and performs routine maintenance & procedural calibrations
  • Maintains project and sample information, protocols, and experimental details through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records
  • Identifies and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifies the supervisor or director
  • Document all exceptions when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications or SOPs.
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s quality assurance procedures including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications, and maintenance procedures.
