About The Position

Under the leadership of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Director, Assistant Director and under the direction and clinical supervision of a Physician and/ or Genetics Nurse Practitioner, the Genetics Health Technician is responsible for assisting in the preparation of patients by performing the following duties: performs basic administrative technical and medical supportive services for a licensed physician and/or Nurse Practitioner by taking vital signs, recording medical history and confirming purpose of visits. Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding procedures, appointments and follow-up care. Other duties as assigned within their scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Experience with insurance verification
  • Medical record data abstraction
  • Medical assisting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Patient financial services
  • Ability to project a positive, warm, friendly and healing attitude to patients, their family and all internal and external customers
  • Completion of formal education via an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • One-year experience as a Genetics Health Technician in a medical practice
  • Experience with electronic health records

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic administrative technical and medical supportive services for a licensed physician and/or Nurse Practitioner by taking vital signs, recording medical history and confirming purpose of visits.

  • Perform venipuncture (blood draw) for diagnostic testing.
