About The Position

Under the leadership of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Director, Assistant Director and under the direction and clinical supervision of a Physician and/ or Genetics Nurse Practitioner, the Genetics Health Technician is responsible for assisting in the preparation of patients by performing the following duties: performs basic administrative technical and medical supportive services for a licensed physician and/or Nurse Practitioner by taking vital signs, recording medical history and confirming purpose of visits. Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding procedures, appointments and follow-up care. Other duties as assigned within their scope of practice.

Requirements

Experience with insurance verification
Medical record data abstraction
Medical assisting
Knowledge of medical terminology
Excellent written and verbal communication
Patient financial services
Ability to project a positive, warm, friendly and healing attitude to patients, their family and all internal and external customers
Completion of formal education via an accredited Medical Assistant program
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification

Nice To Haves

One-year experience as a Genetics Health Technician in a medical practice
Experience with electronic health records

Responsibilities
