Requirements

  • Master's degree in Genetics Counseling, Medical Genetics or Human Genetics

Responsibilities

  • Identifies families at risk for genetic disorders, children with birth defects, or a variety of other inherited conditions.
  • Analyzes inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence.
  • Interprets complex genetic and laboratory data/test results.
  • Communicates findings with physicians and patients.
  • Assists patients with the navigation of financial aspects associated with genetic testing.
  • Assists with diagnosing genetic problems and develops short and long term genetic counseling plans.
  • Provides ongoing genetics education for medical professionals, including speaking at local and regional department meetings.
  • Initiates, develops, and implements genetic screening and health management protocols.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
