OSU Physicians is looking for a skilled and compassionate Genetic Counselor to play a key role in advancing patient care through specialized genetic services. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited genetic counseling training program.
  • Must be board certified.
  • Must be licensed to practice in the state of Ohio.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior clinical genetic counseling experience.
  • Ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive material, manages calendars, coordinates meetings, travel, and supplies and has proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, as well as establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for handling sensitive and confidential situations and communicating effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and administers genetic education, counseling, and psychological support for patients at risk for birth defects or genetic disorders or who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions.
  • Oversees patient testing and independently prepares comprehensive assessments of genetic risk.
  • Coordinates clinical and/or research activities within area of expertise.
  • Provides education, training, and guidance to residents, MFM fellows, genetic counseling graduate students, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling, including evaluating patient and family histories to assess genetic risk.
  • Coordinate, order, and interpret genetic testing and communicate results clearly to patients, families, and providers.
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered education and guidance on diagnoses, risk factors, and care options.
  • Support ongoing patient care through follow-up, referrals, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist with care coordination, including scheduling and maintaining continuity of care across multiple providers.
  • Contribute to fetal therapy program coordination by addressing patient education and support needs.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed documentation and respond to patient and provider inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with licensure, training, and organizational standards.
  • Support a high-quality patient experience through professionalism, empathy, and strong communication.
  • Assist with limited administrative responsibilities, including supply coordination and maintaining required credentials.
  • Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.
