The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time). Pay Range: $78,769.60 - $102,960.00 Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Position Overview ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Obtains and analyzes personal and family medical histories. Interprets the medical and family histories for the patient. Advocates for patients requiring specialized genetic testing and makes referrals to other specialists as needed. Documents accurately all patient care activities as per CH documentation standards. Teaches the patient about the risk of occurrence, recurrence, and natural history of genetic conditions or genetic predisposition risk factors. Exercises discretion and judgement when deciding which diagnostic tests, screening tests, and risk reducing therapies are appropriate for consideration by the patient. Interprets laboratory results for the patient. Educates the patient about the available choices regarding diagnostic and screening genetic tests, risk reduction, and reproduction. Discusses risks, benefits, and limitations of each. Explores with patient feelings and reactions to the various tests, risk reduction, and reproductive choices. Enables and supports the patient in making informed decisions that are in alignment with patient's own desires, values, and spirituality. Provides bereavement support for patients according to needs of the individual. Communicates the outcome of the genetic counseling session with the patient's healthcare providers via summary correspondence or phone. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in providing patient care. Presents cases in interdisciplinary case conferences and incorporates feedback in patient care to maximize patient outcomes. Communicates with referring healthcare providers to ensure continuity of patient care. Demonstrates excellent leadership skills in problem solving and team collaboration. Adapts to the changing demands of the workplace and assumes a leadership role in supporting co-workers adaptation to change. Participates in performance improvement activities. Works collaboratively with supervisors by performing other duties as requested. Attends the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Genetics case conferences on a regular basis. Initiates regular contact with professional organizations for genetics counselors. Participates in continuing education and maintains board certification via American Board of Genetic Counselors. Accesses genetic resources from around the United States and the world. Supervises genetic counseling graduate students during clinical rotations at CH. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Master's degree in genetic counseling. Graduate of an accredited genetics counseling program. Current license as a genetic counselor in the state of NJ upon hire and must attain state of PA genetic counselor license within three months of hire. No previous experience required. Three years of clinical genetics counseling experience in prenatal or cancer preferred. Requirements

  • Master's degree in genetic counseling.
